The Japan Machine Tool Builders' Association (JMTBA) reported that the global orders for Japan machine tools in September 2023 totaled 133.94 billion yen (895 million USD), marking a 16.7% increase from the previous month. This is the second consecutive month of month-on-month growth, with orders exceeding 130 billion yen for the first time in five months and maintaining a level above 100 billion yen for 32 consecutive months. However, these figures represent an 11.2% decrease compared to the same month in the previous year.

JMTBA suggests that the orders in September increased due to seasonal factors etc, but the level of total orders received was slightly lower than the past peak. They will closely monitor future trends and anticipate an improvement over time.

Orders from the automotive industry increased by 29.7%, machinery industry by 21.4%, electronics and precision industry by 12.5%, while the aerospace, ship, and transportation equipment industry saw a 53.9% increase from August 2023.
