Toyo Glass Showcases Thick Labels, Elevating the Touch and Elegance of Beverage Bottles
Toyo Glass introduced “Atsumori Tack Labels”, with a rich, sculptural texture, these labels offer a touch of luxury. Perfect for alcoholic beverages, they're cost-effective and delivered in just one month.
Dec 7, 2023 - Toyo Glass has developed "Atsumori Tack Labels," featuring a thick, sculptural-like texture on bottle labels. The company has started presenting this innovative product to its business partners, anticipating its use on bottles of alcoholic beverages, including sake. The tack label boasts a textured surface that is pleasant to the touch. Although prices are estimated individually, a notable feature is its affordability compared to the method of adding irregularities to the glass body.
The labels can add a thickness of 200 to 300 micrometers to the bottle and are compatible with round bottles of 1,800 ml or less, such as 1-sho bottles. The expected supply capacity is in the tens of thousands of bottles.
Adding thickness to the glass bottle itself requires the use of a mold for glass bottle manufacturing, which alone can cost several million yen. While thick embossed tack labels are approximately 30% more expensive than regular labels without uneven surfaces, they are more cost-effective than manufacturing methods involving molds. In terms of delivery time, if the glass bottle itself is thickly plated, it can take up to three months at the earliest. However, thickly plated tack labels can be delivered in about one month.
Toppan Infomedia, a subsidiary of Toppan Holdings (HD) located in Tokyo, uses UV ink to overprint the labels. Toyo Glass then applies these labels to the glass bottles. The labels can be colored in any hue and produced in a wide variety of variations. The company aims to encourage domestic beverage manufacturers to commercialize this innovative product.
