Thailand’s Auto Production Drops 13.62% in Feb 2025 – Pickup Trucks Plunge 42.10%, Exports Down 9.48%

Thailand’s total vehicle production in February 2025 reached 115,487 units, a decline of 13.62% compared to February 2024. This decrease was primarily driven by a 21.26% drop in domestic production, particularly in pickup trucks, which saw a sharp decline of 42.10% in line with lower domestic sales. Meanwhile, export production fell by 9.48%, with passenger car production experiencing a significant drop of 47.01%, reflecting the decline in export demand.

March 25, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for February 2025:

Total car production

The total number of vehicles produced in February 2025 was 115,487 units, down 13.62% year-on-year but up 7.8% from January 2025. 

- Passenger cars: 38,563 units, 23.55% decrease (YoY) 

  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 16,379 units, down 44.64% 
  • Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 2,242 units, an increase of 192.69% 
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 2,227 units, showing a 311.65% increase.
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 17,715 units, down 9.37%

- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in February 2025.
- Trucks: 76,924 units, down 7.60% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 76,017 units, down 5.28% (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 19,507 units, up 35.13%
  • Double-Cab Pickups: 40,898 units, down 19.82%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 15,612 units, an increase of 5.42%

- Pickup trucks less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 907 units, down 69.74% (YoY)

Car production for export

In February 2025, the car production for export totaled 78,535​ units, representing 68.00% of the total production, a decrease of  9.48% (YoY)

- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 13,511 units, a decrease of 47.01% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 65,024​ units, inecreased 6.14% (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 15,077 units, an increase of 172.59%
  • Double-Cab Pickups: 37,200 units, down 14.02%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 12,747 units, increased 2.24%

Car production for domestic sales

In February 2025, there were 36,952​ units produced for domestic sales, representing 32.00% of the whole production, representing a 21.26% decline (YoY)

- Passenger cars for domestic sales totaled 25,052 units, an increase of 0.43% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 10,993 units, 42.10% decrease (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 4,430 units, a decrease of 50.25%
  • Double-Cab Pickups: 3,698 units, down 52.23%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 2,865 units, increased 22.38%

- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in February 2025. 
-  Pickup trucks at 907 units, declined 69.74% (YoY)
