Thailand Car Production Jan 2026 Up 10.53% to 118,386 Units

Thailand’s car production rose to 118,386 units in January 2026, up 10.53% year-on-year and 3.98% month-on-month, driven mainly by a sharp increase in passenger car production for export and a strong rebound in pickup truck output for the domestic market.

Growth in battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) also continued, underscoring the structural transition of Thailand’s automotive industry toward electrification.

24 February 2026 — Mr. Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Spokesman and Advisor to the Automotive Industry Group, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), disclosed Thailand’s vehicle production figures for January 2026 as follows:

Overall Production Overview

Total vehicle production reached 118,386 units, increasing 10.53% YoY.

Key Supporting Factors:

  • Passenger car production for export surged 46.56%
  • Pickup truck production for domestic sales jumped 153.57%
  • Domestic truck production rose 76.18%
  • EV production expanded under the government’s EV 3.5 incentive scheme

Production by Vehicle Type

Passenger Vehicles

Production totaled 41,535 units, up 16.30% YoY, broken down as follows:

  • ICE vehicles: 17,991 units, down 12.65%
  • BEVs: 2,471 units, up 48.41%
  • PHEVs: 1,725 units, down 20.32%
  • HEVs: 19,348 units, up 21.58%

📌 The figures reflect continued expansion in HEV and BEV production, while ICE output declined further.

No buses (under or over 10 tons) were produced during the month.

Commercial Vehicles and Pickups

Total commercial vehicle production reached 76,851 units, up 7.65% YoY.

1-Ton Pickup Trucks

Production totaled 75,468 units, up 6.89% YoY, comprising:

  • Standard pickups: 10,795 units (+5.08%)
  • Double-cab pickups: 50,834 units (+11.53%)
  • Double-cab BEV pickups: 459 units (+100%)
  • PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicle): 13,380 units (-9.29%)

Trucks (Under 5 Tons to Over 10 Tons)

Production reached 1,383 units, up 76.18% YoY.

Production for Export

Vehicles produced for export totaled 79,686 units, accounting for 75.71% of total production, up 6.19% YoY.

  • Passenger car exports: 20,451 units (+46.56%)
  • 1-ton pickup exports: 59,235 units (-3.04%), comprising:
    • Standard pickups: 5,994 units (+14.30%)
    • Double-cab pickups: 43,909 units (+2.91%)
    • PPV: 9,332 units (-29.19%)

Production for Domestic Sales

Vehicles produced for domestic sales totaled 38,700 units, representing 24.29% of total production, up 20.71% YoY.

  • Passenger cars: 21,084 units (-3.11%)
  • 1-ton pickups: 16,233 units (+70.62%), comprising:
    • Standard pickups: 4,801 units (-4.53%)
    • Double-cab pickups: 7,384 units
    • PPV: 4,048 units (+157.34%)

No buses were produced for domestic sale in January.

Production of trucks (under 5 tons to over 10 tons) for the domestic market totaled 1,383 units, up 76.18% YoY.

Industry Outlook

The January data indicate that Thailand’s automotive sector began 2026 on a stronger footing, supported by export-oriented passenger car production and a recovery in domestic pickup demand. Meanwhile, the steady expansion of BEV and HEV output highlights the country’s accelerating transition toward electrified mobility.
