Thailand's Vehicle Production Falls 7.55% in June 2026 as Export Demand Weakens

Thailand's automotive production continued to face pressure in June 2026, with total vehicle output declining 7.55% year-on-year to 120,391 units as exports of passenger cars and one-ton pickups weakened, particularly to Middle Eastern markets. Despite stronger domestic production, lower export demand continued to weigh on the country's manufacturing sector.

Vehicle Production Down 7.55% in June

Thailand produced 120,391 vehicles in June 2026, down 7.55% compared with June 2025.

The decline was primarily attributed to weaker export production. Passenger car production for export dropped 50.11%, while one-ton pickup production for export declined 8.07%, reflecting weaker shipments to the Middle East, where exports fell by 7,727 units (-38.35%) from the same month last year.

Domestic production of one-ton pickups also contracted 17.04%, contributing to the overall decline in manufacturing.

During the first six months of 2026, Thailand produced 717,212 vehicles, down 1.04% year-on-year.

Passenger Car Production

Passenger car production totaled 48,317 units in June, a 5.30% decline from the previous year.

Production by powertrain included:

ICE: 9,582 units (-64.54%)
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV): 12,634 units (+282.38%)
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV): 1,571 units (+395.58%)
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV): 24,530 units (+20.37%)

For January-June 2026, passenger car production reached 252,371 units, representing 35.19% of Thailand's total vehicle production, down 4.65% year-on-year.

By powertrain:

ICE: 84,051 units (-29.21%)
BEV: 34,030 units (+43.00%)
PHEV: 12,319 units (+23.97%)
HEV: 121,971 units (+8.71%)

Commercial Vehicle Production

Commercial vehicle production totaled 72,074 units in June, decreasing 9.00% from June 2025.

Cumulative production during January-June reached 464,841 units, up 1.04% year-on-year.

One-Ton Pickups

Production of one-ton pickups totaled 70,539 units, down 10.13% from June 2025.

January-June production reached 456,157 units, accounting for 63.60% of Thailand's total vehicle production and increasing 0.10% year-on-year.

Breakdown:

Pickup trucks: 74,901 units (+2.40%)
Double-cab pickups: 285,978 units (-2.38%)
BEV double-cab pickups: 2,101 units (+2,234.44%)
PPVs: 93,177 units (+4.10%)

Heavy-duty truck production (below 5 tons to above 10 tons) totaled 1,535 units in June, rising 115.59% year-on-year. January-June production reached 8,684 units, up 98.76%.

Export-Oriented Production

Production for export totaled 67,784 units, representing 56.30% of total production, down 20.18% year-on-year.

During the first half of 2026, export-oriented production reached 449,161 units, accounting for 62.63% of total output and declining 5.44% from the same period last year.

Passenger car production for export fell to 12,201 units in June (-50.11%), while January-June export production totaled 93,885 units, down 3.78% year-on-year.

One-ton pickup production for export reached 55,583 units in June (-8.07%).

Cumulative January-June export production totaled 355,276 units, accounting for 77.89% of all pickup production.

Domestic Production

Production for the domestic market reached 52,607 units in June, accounting for 43.70% of total vehicle production and increasing 16.12% year-on-year.

During January-June, domestic production totaled 268,051 units, representing 37.37% of total production and rising 7.35% from the previous year.

Passenger car production for the domestic market increased 35.95% in June to 36,116 units.

Domestic production of one-ton pickups, however, fell 17.04% to 14,956 units.
