Thailand’s car production reached 133,413 units in March 2026, rising 13.11% month-on-month and 2.69% year-on-year, driven primarily by export growth. While overseas demand continues to support the industry, domestic production remains subdued, highlighting Thailand’s ongoing reliance on export markets.

April 27, 2026 — The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), represented by Surapong Paisitpattanapong, reported that Thailand’s automotive sector continued to expand in March 2026, supported mainly by export-oriented production.

Overall Car Production

  • March 2026: 133,413 units
    • +13.11% MoM
    • +2.69% YoY
  • January–March 2026: 369,751 units
    • +5.32% YoY

March Key drivers:

  • Passenger car production for export: +19.91%
  • Pickup production for export: +3.82%

Passenger Cars: Structural Shift Underway

Passenger car production totaled 43,463 units (-4.66% YoY), accounting for 32.58% of total output, while January–March output rose 5.32% YoY to 369,751​ units.

February Breakdown:

  • ICE: 14,361 units (-22.08% YoY)
  • BEV: 4,962 units (-8.65% YoY)
  • PHEV: 2,318 units (-1.78% YoY)
  • HEV: 21,822 units (+12.69% YoY)

In Jan–Mar:

  • Passenger Cars production totaled 119,949 units (32.44% of total production, +0.38% YoY)

Commercial Vehicle Production Remains Strong

Total commercial vehicle production reached 89,950​ units in March, increasing 6.67% YoY, while January–March output rose 7.87% YoY to 249,802​ units.

1-Ton Pickup Trucks

  • March: 88,344 units (+8.80% YoY)

February Breakdown:

  • Pickup (single cab): 13,024 units (+23.08%)
  • Double cab: 57,006 units (+1.54%)
  • BEV pickup: 397 units (+100%)
  • PPV: 17,917 units (+7.31%)

In Jan–Mar:

  • 1-Ton Pickup Trucks production totaled 245,357 units (66.36% of total production, +7.15% YoY)

Export-Oriented Production Remains Key

Vehicles produced for export totaled 88,651 ​units, accounting for 66.45% of total output, up 6.53% YoY.

  • Passenger cars for export: 16,814 units (+22.83%)
  • Pickup trucks for export: 71,837 units (+3.82%)

In Jan–Mar:

  • Export production totaled 249,343 units (67.44% of total output, +5.78% YoY)

Domestic Production: Still Fragile

Production for domestic sales reached 44,762 units (33.55% of total output), down 4.15% YoY.

In Jan–Mar:

  • Total domestic production: 120,408 units (+4.39%)

February highlights:

  • Passenger cars (Jan–Mar): 66,226 units (-15.22%)
  • Pickup trucks (Jan–Mar): 49,737 units (+43.59%)

📌 Thailand’s automotive industry growth in 2026 is still heavily dependent on exports, while the product mix is gradually shifting toward hybrid and electric vehicles.
