
Thailand’s April 2025 Auto Production Hits 44-Month Low, While EV Sales and Exports Surge
Thailand's total vehicle production in April 2025 stood at 104,250 units, marking the lowest level in 44 months, down 0.4% year-on-year and 19.75% month-on-month. Despite the drop, electric vehicle (EV) production and sales posted exceptional growth.
May 22, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for April 2025:
Total car production
The total number of vehicles produced in April 2025 was 104,250 units, down 19.75% from March 2025 and declined by 0.40% year-on-year.
- Passenger cars: 40,025 units, 4.80% increase (YoY)
- Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 15,649 units, down 33.60%
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 4,764 units, an increase of 639.75%
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 1,031 units, showing a 319.11% increase.
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 18,581 units, up 35.31%
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in April 2025.
- Trucks: 64,225 units, down 3.39% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 63,740 units, 3.06% decrease (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 9,764 units, up 0.27%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 42,525 units, down 5.74%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 11,451 units, an increase of 5.06%
- Pickup trucks less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 485 units, down 33.10% (YoY)
Car production for export
In April 2025, the car production for export totaled 67,085 units, representing 64.35% of the total production, a decrease of 6.73% (YoY)
- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 13,114 units, a decrease of 36.93% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 53,971 units, inecreased 5.54% (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 5,604 units, an increase of 56.54%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 50,675 units, up 8.68%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 13,352 units, increased 23.08%
Car production for domestic sales
In April 2025, there were 37,165 units produced for domestic sales, representing 35.65% of the whole production, representing a 13.52% increase (YoY).
- Passenger cars for domestic sales totaled 26,911 units, an increase of 54.68% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 9,769 units, 33.16% decrease (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 4,160 units, a decrease of 46.39%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 3,222 units, a decrease of 31.20%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 2,387 units, increased 60.66%
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in April 2025.
- Pickup trucks at 485 units, declined 33.10% (YoY).
