Newly Registered Electric Vehicles (xEV) in January 2023
The Next-Generation Automotive Research Center under Thailand Automotive Institute released the report on the new registration of Electric Vehicles (xEV) and electric motorcycles as the followings:
The new registration for Electric Vehicles (xEV) in January 2023 totaled 11,778 units, increasing 85.5% (MoM), accounting for 13% of the total newly registered vehicles.
- For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new registration totaled 8,614 units, comprising 7,653 HEVs and 961 PHEVs, an increase of 77% (YoY) and 33% (YoY) in order.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 3,164 units, a increase of 98% (MoM) and rising of 1,018% (YoY), according to the steady increasing public interest in EV.
The new registration for motor vehicles in January 2023 totaled 89,293 units, an increase of 5% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles totaled 77,515 units, accounting for 87% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate decreased by 3%

In January 2023, the registration for new electric motorcycles totaled 1,577 units, an increase of 41.9% (MoM), accounting for 0.9% of the total newly registered motorcycles.
There were only 34 HEVs, while the BEV is still popular. Although the BEV's volume was not much at 1,543 units, it's likely to continue to grow with an increasing 347% and almost all of them were personal motorcycles

For HEV, the new registration totaled 34 units, increasing 70% (YoY) and the number was more than the previous month which 27 HEV motorcycles were registered.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 1,543 units, an increase of 347% (YoY) and the number rose from 1,084 units in the previous month.
The new registration for motorcycles in January 2023 totaled 175,084 units, an increase of 10% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles totaled 173,507 units, accounting for 99% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate increased by 9%
