Newly registered xEV electric vehicles in September 2021, up 10% from the same period last year

The Next-Generation Automotive Research Center under Thailand Automotive Institute released the report on the new registration of Electric Vehicles (xEV) and electric motorcycles as the followings:

The new registration for Electric Vehicles (xEV) in September totaled 3,684 units, increasing 10% (YoY) and rising 32% when comparing with the same period in 2019. Nevertheless, the number is less more when comparing to the total number in the previous month at 3,226 units.

For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new registration totaled 2,970 units, an increase of 3% (YoY), comprising HEV at 2,367 and PHEV at 603 units.
The new registration for BEV totaled 256 units, an increase of 313% (YoY) and rising declining from 220 units in the previous month, according to the steady increasing public interest in EV.

In September 2021, the registration for new electric motorcycles totaled 399 units, an increase of 2% (YoY) and rising decline from 312 units in the previous month. Though the HEV new registration decreased tremendously at 72%, BEV made an increase of 121%. Therefore, the total number for the new electric motorcycle registration remained almost the same.

Comparing with the statistics of the same month in 2019, the new BEV registration increased 163% whereas that of HEV decreased 82%. This is the result from the increasing public interest for BEV. Nevertheless, the registration number from both types is lower 20% than that of the same month in 2019.

For HEV, the new registration totaled 67 units, decreasing 72% (YoY) and the number was less than the previous year which 69 HEV motorcycles were registered.
The new registration for BEV totaled 332 units, an increase of 121% (YoY) and the number rose from 243 units in the previous month.
