Newly Registered Electric Vehicles (xEV) in May 2022
The Next-Generation Automotive Research Center under Thailand Automotive Institute released the report on the new registration of Electric Vehicles (xEV) and electric motorcycles as the followings:
The new registration for Electric Vehicles (xEV) in May 2022 totaled 6,940 units, increasing 71.3% (MoM), accounting for 7.9% of the total newly registered vehicles.
- For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new registration totaled 6,390 units, comprising 5,334 HEVs and 1,056 PHEVs, an increase of 75% (YoY) and 50% (YoY) in order.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 550 units, a increase of 216% (MoM) and rising of 255% (YoY), according to the steady increasing public interest in EV.
The new registration for motor vehicles in May 2022 totaled 87,691 units, an increase of 10% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles totaled 80,751 units, accounting for 92% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate increased by 7%

In May 2022, the registration for new electric motorcycles totaled 981 units, a increase of 147.1% (MoM), accounting for 0.5% of the total newly registered motorcycles.
There were only 28 HEVs and the growth rate continued to decline. This is the result from the performance and fuel consumption is not different from the ICE car, while the BEV is still popular. Although the BEV's volume was not much at 953 units, it's likely to continue to grow with an increasing 148% and almost all of them were personal motorcycles

For HEV, the new registration totaled 28 units, decreasing 82% (YoY) and the number was less than the previous month which 47 HEV motorcycles were registered.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 953 units, an increase of 148% (YoY) and the number rose from 350 units in the previous month.
The new registration for motorcycles in May 2022 totaled 178,698 units, a increase of 16% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles totaled 177,717 units, accounting for 99.5% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate increased by 15%
