Thailand’s Motor Vehicle Production Volume in May 2018

Mr. Surapong Paisitpattanapong, vice president and spokesman of Automotive Industry Club, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), disclosed Thailand’s motor vehicle production and export volume in May 2018 as follows:

Production

Car production volume for May 2018 increased by 13.94% from May 2017 to 193,130 vehicles due to the productions of passenger cars and pickup trucks for export which increased by 16.6% and 18.83%, respectively, and the productions of passenger cars and pickups for domestic sales which increased by 8.94% and 10.01%, respectively. The car production volume in May 2018 also rose from the production volume in April 2018 by 43.29%. The total vehicle production volume from January – May 2018 was registered at 867,599 vehicles, increased by 11.87% from the production volume from January – May 2017.

Passenger car production volume in May 2018 was registered at 80,175 vehicles, increased by 12.54% from the production volume in May 2017. The passenger car production volume from January- May 2018 was at 357,609 vehicles which was equivalent to 41.22% of the total production volume and grew from the production volume from January – May 2017 by 11.69%.
Less than 10-ton and greater than 10-ton passenger vehicle production volume in May 2018 was at 28 vehicles, increased by 154.55% from May 2017. The production from January – May 2018 was registered at 136 vehicles, grew by 21.43% from January – May 2017
Light truck production volume in May 2018 was totally registered at 112,927 vehicles, increased from the production volume in May 2017 by 14.95% and the production volume from January – May 2018 was at a total of 509,854 vehicles, increased by 12% from the production volume in January – May 2017.
1-Ton Pickup production volume in May 2018 was at a total of 109,859 vehicles, increased by 14.96% from the production volume in May 2017 and the production volume from January – May 2018 was at a total of 497,055 vehicles which was equivalent to 57.29% of the total production volume, and increased by 12.08% from the production volume in January – May 2017.
Less than 5-ton and greater than 10-ton truck production in May 2018 was at 3,068 vehicles, increased from the production volume in May 2017 by 14.52% and the production volume from January – May 2018 was at a total of 12,799 vehicles, increased by 9.07% from the production volume in January – May 2017.

Production for Export

In May 2018, the car production was registered at 102,810 vehicles or equivalent to 53.23% of the total production volume and increased from the production volume in May 2017 by 17.97%. While the production volume for export from January – May 2018 was at 476,635 vehicles, or equivalent to 54.94% of the total production volume and increased from the production volume of the same period of the previous year by 8.1%.

Passenger car production volume for export in May 2018 was registered at 39,017 vehicles, increased from the production volume for export in May 2017 by 16.6% and the total production for export from January – May 2018 was at 180,611 vehicles or equivalent to 50.51% of the total passenger car production volume, and increased by 8.23% from the production volume in January – May 2017.
1-ton pickup production volume for export in May 2018 was at a total of 63,793 vehicles, increased from the production volume in May 2017 by 18.83% and the total production volume for export from January – May 2018 was registered at 296,024 vehicles or equivalent to 59.56% of the pick-up production volume, and increased by 8.03% from the production volume in January – May 2017.

Production for Domestic Sales

The production volume in May 2018 was registered at 90,320 vehicles or equivalent to 46.77% of the total production volume and increased by 9.68% from May 2017. In addition, the production volume from January – May 2018 was at 390,964 vehicles or equivalent to 45.06% of the total production volume and increased by 16.84% from the production volume in January – May 2017.

Passenger car production volume for domestic sales in May 2018 was at 41,158 vehicles, increased from the production volume in May 2017 by 8.94%. Meanwhile, the production volume for domestic sales from January – May 2018 was registered at 176,998 vehicles or equivalent to 49.49% of the total passenger car production volume, increased by 15.46% when compared to the production volume from January – May 2017.
1-ton pickup production volume for domestic sales in May 2018 was registered at 46,066 vehicles, increased by 10.01% from the production volume in May 2017. In addition, the total production volume from January – May 2018 was at 201,031 vehicles or equivalent to 40.44% of the total pick-up production volume, and increased by 18.62% from the production volume in January – May 2017.

Export

In May 2018, the export was registered at 98,875 vehicles, increased from the export in May 2017 by 9.75%. The export had increased in almost all markets due to the improving economy of trading partner countries, except for the markets of the Middle East, North America, Central America, and South America. The export value recorded 51,877.43 million baht, increased by 8.05% from the export value in May 2017.

Engine export value was at 2,675.84 million baht, dropped by 24.86% from the export value in May 2017. Meanwhile, the export value of other auto parts was at 18,947.41 million baht, increased by 15.45% from the export value in May 2017.
Spare parts export value was at 1,926.72 million baht, dropped by 35.01% from the export value in May 2017.

Thus, the total auto export value in May 2018, consisting of engines, auto parts, and spare parts, amounted to 75,427.41 million baht, increased from the export value in May 2017 by 6.31%. In addition, from January – May 2018, the finished vehicle export was registered at 466,676 vehicles with the export increase by 5.27% from the same period of 2017 and the export value was at 241,744.74 million baht, increased by 3.35% from the export value in January- May 2017.

The total export value of vehicles, engines, auto parts, and spare parts from January – May 2018 was at 357,231.58 million baht, increased by 3.48% from the export value in January – May 2017.
