Thailand produced 104,878 vehicles in December 2024, marking a 17.37% drop year-on-year. The decline was driven by both domestic and export market weakness.

January 28, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for December 2024:

Total car production

The total number of vehicles produced in December 2024 was 104,878 units, a decrease of 17.37% from December 2023. This decline was driven by a 28.50% reduction in domestic production, mirroring a decrease in domestic sales, and a 9.47% decrease in exports, corresponding to a decline in export volumes.

From January to December 2024, the total vehicle production amounted to 1,468,997 units, a decrease of 19.95% compared to the same period in 2023.

Total production of 104,878 vehicles in December 2024, composed of:

- Passenger cars: 38,749 units, 17.75% decrease (YoY) 

• Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 19,127 units, down 40.41% 
• Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 1,198 units, an increase of 19,866.67% 
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 2,528 units, showing a 1,070.37% increase
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 15,896 units, marking a 7.47% increase 

- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in December 2024. From January to December 2024, a total of 10 units were produced, a decrease of 91.53% compared to last year.
- Trucks: 66,129 units, down 17.14% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 65,168 units, down 15.12% (YoY)
- Pickup trucks less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 961 units, declined 68.29% (YoY)

Car production for export

In December 2024, the car production for export totaled 67,203 units, representing 64.08% of the total production, a decrease of  9.47% (YoY)

- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 14,611 units, a decrease of 39.40% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 52,592 units, increased 4.93% (YoY)

Car production for domestic use

In December 2024, there were 37,675 units produced for domestic use, representing 35.92% of the whole production, as well as a decrease of 28.50% (YoY)

- The production of passenger cars for domestic sales was 24,138 units, a increase of 4.94% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 12,576 units, 52.82% decrease (YoY)
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in December 2024. 
-  Pickup trucks at 961 units, declined 68.29% (YoY)
