Thailand’s 2024 Auto Sales Drop 26.18%, Passenger EV Sales Decline but Hybrids Rise

The Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has reported that Thailand's total vehicle sales in 2024 reached 572,675 units, marking a significant decline of 26.18% from 2023.

Passenger cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) accounted for 341,956 units, representing 59.71% of total sales, a 15.98% decrease from the previous year.

• Internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger cars and SUVs: 155,044 units (27.07% of total sales), down 35.01%.
• Battery electric vehicles (BEVs): 66,732 units (11.85% of total sales), down 9.29%.
• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs): 2,391 units (0.42% of total sales), up 26.17%.
• Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs): 117,789 units (20.57% of total sales), up 26.71%.

Pickup truck sales stood at 163,347 units, a sharp decline of 38.30% from the previous year.

• Pickup-based passenger vehicles (PPVs): 36,843 units, down 38.89%.
• Medium-duty trucks (5–10 tons): 16,046 units, down 42.03%.
• Other vehicle types: 14,483 units, down 9.93%.

Despite an overall downturn in auto sales, the hybrid vehicle segment showed notable growth, reflecting a shift in consumer preferences toward fuel-efficient and electrified mobility solutions.
