Toyota Plans to Manufacture & Distribute Over 2 Million EVs
Toyota has notified its main parts manufacturers to be prepared to produce and distribute a total of 2 million hybrid vehicles (HV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) (excluding volumes from Daihatsu and Hino) in 2019, which is 500,000 units more than the volume made in 2017 of 1.52 million or 30% increase. The reason behind it is the desire to rapidly expand the market being in line with environmental policies.
HV/PHV Order and Delivery Volumes in 2019
On August 3, Toyota disclosed the plan for 2019 to its main parts manufacturers, aiming to produce and deliver 2.05 million units of HV and PHV, or 430,000 higher than the 2018 goal. It would be 1.24 million units from Japan and 810,000 units from outside Japan. Originally, Toyota had set the delivery goal for 2020 at 1.5 million units, which was already achieved since March 2017.
The company has a plan for manufacturing and distributing PHV of “Corolla” and “Levin” models to China in 2019 in response to China’s New Electric Vehicle policy.
In addition, Toyota plans to transform their vehicles of all models to be electric ones by 2025 in order to be in line with the enforcement of every country’s environmental policy.
At the same time, Toyota sets the goal for global production volume in 2019 at 9.11 million units, which is 19 times higher than that of 2018. The number is, however, 70,000 units lower than the goal set in December 2017, which results from excluding the volume from Daihatsu and the volume of OEM production. The production volume in China is also adjusted, resulting in the even more accurate new goal number. It is expected that Toyota will be able to produce 3.33 million units in Japan.
The goal for worldwide delivery volume by 2019 is set at 9.69 million units, which is 180,000 units higher than the 2018 goal and 100,000 units higher than the original goal.
