June 14th, Delta Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited is ringing in its 30th anniversary with several renewed focuses. Founded in 1988, Delta Electronics Thailand originally focused on the design and manufacturing of power and thermal management products. Over the past 30 years, it has become the largest electronics supplier listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand [SET: DELTA] and won numerous awards for innovative and sustainable business practices. Since 2017, Delta Thailand has reorganized its business into the three categories: Power Electronics, Automation, and Infrastructure.

Now Delta’s prominence and diverse interests enable it to help define the curve of technological progress in Thailand as it shifts priorities to solutions that meet the demands of megatrends. These include Industrial Automation, Data Centers, Electric Vehicles (EV), Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems. Together they will align Delta Thailand’s values with the government’s Thailand 4.0 initiative, uphold its reputation as a forward-thinking international company, and ensure stockholder returns well into the future.

“Delta is positioned to gain the benefits of exciting new technologies that will help businesses and the world to operate in a clean and efficient manner,” said Delta Electronics Thailand President Hsieh Shen-yen.  “The world is changing fast, and we had agile adaption within Delta to put our resources into emerging technology sectors that will make the most impact.”

Industrial Automation: World-Class Innovation for the Region

Another major aspect of Thailand 4.0 is Industry 4.0, which seeks to transform factories based on manual labor into precise and efficient networks of interconnected smart machines. Delta Thailand has long been ahead of the game in this field, providing everything from assembly line components like planetary gearboxes and actuators to sophisticated logic controllers and human machine interfaces. Since 2014, Delta Thailand has been rapidly expanding its industrial automation business in Southeast Asia, Australia and India.

One of Delta’s world-class solutions includes the High-Flexibility Multi-Tasking Smart Production line. This is an integrated system capable of producing multiple products simultaneously, and one particular element of it, the six-axis DRV Series articulated robot, gained international recognition in when it was awarded the 2018 iF Design Award.

Efficient Data Centers: The Backbone of Digital Life

As Thailand moves from a heavy-manufacturing-based economy to a modern value-based economy, data centers will become more and more important for businesses. Cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile internet, and big data combined, require modern businesses to invest in data centers for managing heavy online traffic. To enable businesses to handle this challenge, Delta Thailand has designed the Infrasuite Datacenter Infrastructure Solutions. These Big Data hubs include Delta’s complete set of power, cooling, Li-Ion batteries and environment management systems.

Delta’s Data Center Solutions are designed to adapt and grow with businesses. They are efficient, low-power, and highly scalable to both business needs and space considerations. Delta also provides full support for the entire life of the system, from initial consultation and design to installation and continued service.

Electric Vehicle Charging: Pioneering the Thai EV Industry

EVs are a forerunner of Asia’s new green economy, and the Thai government hopes to have 1.2 million on the road by 2036. Supporting these will require many new EV charging stations, which Delta is uniquely positioned to provide. Delta leverages its leading expertise in power conversion and management technology to create high-quality DC and AC chargers that utilize both a web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and mobile apps to make setup, use, and maintenance as hassle-free as possible.

Earlier this year, Delta launched a full range of EV chargers in India, and it will open a manufacturing plant there in 2019. Delta also plans to broaden its scope in Thailand and has already collaborated with the Metropolitan Electric Authority of Thailand (MEA) in Bangkok and the Thai Automotive Institute (TAI) in Bangpoo to provide EV charging solutions.

This year, Delta joins the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT) EV Charging Consortium as one of the EV supply equipment companies that will supply charging solutions for the country’s top EV charging station operators. Delta’s membership is the fruit of years of cooperation with the Thai government’s EV authorities to drive infrastructure development and set the nation’s EV charging platforms.

Renewable Energy Solutions: The Key to Combatting Global Warming

Delta Thailand has taken a serious interest in green energy and eco-friendly infrastructure development. It has held a position on the SET’s Thailand Sustainability Investment list for 3 years in a row (2015-2017) and is one of only 21 groups with a market capitalization above 100 Billion THB to be awarded such a spot. Delta’s range of photovoltaic (PV) inverters cover all solar energy needs from residential rooftops to industrial arrays. This includes the new M30A and M50A, compact and lightweight commercial models.

Delta now has a combined installed capacity of 4MW in rooftop solar systems at its Thailand operations. At its headquarters in Bangpoo, Samutprakarn, Delta will install a 500kWh energy storage system (ESS) to further research sustainability, with plans to expand into this growing market in the future.

Energy Storage Systems: Introducing Future Energy Storage Technology to the Region

As governments across Southeast Asia boost efforts to improve electrification rates, the micro grid has become a popular solution to ensure non-stop operations and provide power to remote areas with poor infrastructure. Delta leverages its state-of-the-art Energy Storage System (ESS) to meet power demand when the grid power supply is critically low or to shift the power stored during low usage periods to peak demand periods. For grids using solar energy, Delta’s ESS can store energy from solar arrays during the daytime and the grid during the evening. This stored energy can then be used to stabilize total power output when selling solar energy to the grid or when consuming it directly. The advantages of reliable, optimized electricity supply and reduced utility costs, make Delta’s ESS a key technology for electricity users across the region.

Delta’s ESS integrates bi-directional power conditioning, battery devices, site controllers and a cloud management system to provide comprehensive energy storage for residential, commercial and utility applications. The company’s Li-ion battery portfolio covers cells, modules (24V, 48V), cabinets and containers for a wide variety of requirements. With Southeast Asia expected to become a major market for micro grids, Delta is positioning itself as a regional pioneer in energy storage systems that will play a critical role in the future grid landscape.

Towards a Better Tomorrow

Moving into its fourth decade, Delta Thailand will maintain its shift toward technologies of the future, for which it has already received accolades. In February 2018, Delta Thailand gained worldwide recognition when it became the only Thai electronics company to win the RobecoSAM Bronze Class 2018 Sustainability Award.

As it advances to meet the ever-changing technological needs of business and society, Delta continues to commit itself to business growth based on sustainable development. High demand for its solutions worldwide, particularly in India, Australia and ASEAN countries, will continue to drive Delta’s growth.
