Applied Materials Invests $500 Million to Expand Singapore Operations, Supporting Global AI Chip Demand
Applied Materials, one of the world’s largest semiconductor equipment manufacturers, is investing US$500 million to expand its manufacturing and research capabilities in Singapore, aiming to support the growing demand for semiconductors driven by artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The expansion is expected to increase global production capacity and create more than 1,000 new jobs over the coming years.
June 10, 2026 — Applied Materials officially opened its new Tampines Campus in Singapore as part of its Singapore 2030 initiative. The facility more than doubles the company’s advanced cleanroom space and strengthens its ability to manufacture semiconductor production equipment for customers expanding capacity to meet surging demand for AI and data center chips worldwide.
AI Drives a New Wave of Semiconductor Investment
According to Gary Dickerson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Applied Materials, AI is transforming every industry and creating unprecedented demand for advanced semiconductors. As a result, chipmakers around the world are accelerating investments in new fabrication facilities and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The Singapore expansion is designed to enhance Applied Materials’ ability to deliver semiconductor manufacturing equipment more efficiently and support customers as they scale production. The new facility has already commenced commercial operations and will serve as one of the company’s key manufacturing hubs in Asia.
Applied Materials currently operates manufacturing facilities across the United States, Europe, Israel, Taiwan, and Singapore. Over the past several years, the company has nearly doubled its global manufacturing capacity to support the rapid expansion of the AI-driven semiconductor industry.
Smart Factory Powered by AI and Automation
The Tampines Campus has been designed as a next-generation semiconductor equipment manufacturing facility, integrating advanced digital technologies and automation systems, including:
- Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
- Automated assembly and testing systems
- AI-assisted quality inspection
- AR/VR-enabled training and maintenance solutions
These technologies help improve production accuracy, shorten manufacturing cycles, and accelerate the introduction of new technologies to the market.
Singapore Reinforces Its Position as Asia’s Semiconductor Hub
Applied Materials noted that Singapore has been a strategic base for the company for more than 35 years and remains one of its most important manufacturing locations due to its skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and well-established semiconductor ecosystem.
The expansion is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs across manufacturing, engineering, research and development, and technical support functions, further strengthening Singapore’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Industry analysts believe the investment reflects a broader upcycle in semiconductor manufacturing, particularly in areas such as AI chips, High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM), advanced packaging, and data center infrastructure. These segments are expected to remain key growth drivers for the global semiconductor industry over the next several years.
