Dr. Chula Sukmanop, Secretary-General of the EECO, participated as a distinguished speaker at the IGNITE Thailand-Korea Business Forum, held at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Dr. Chula Sukmanop, Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO), was among the distinguished speakers at the IGNITE Thailand-Korea Business Forum, held on 22–23 April 2025 at Lotte Hotel Seoul. Co-hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul and the Korea Herald, the two-day forum aimed to strengthen economic ties and investment collaboration between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.

The IGNITE Forum was a flagship initiative to foster deeper economic engagement between the two nations. With Thailand recognized as the largest economy in mainland Southeast Asia, the forum sought to convert shared economic potential into tangible outcomes. It provided a platform for Thai and Korean businesses, government agencies, and business associations to explore bilateral investment and trade opportunities.

Dr. Chula delivered a presentation on “Business and Investment Opportunities in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)”, highlighting Thailand’s most advanced and ambitious economic development zone. His session covered the EEC’s strategic importance, investor-friendly policies, infrastructure development, and sector-specific investment opportunities across key industries, including medical and health, services, electric vehicles, digital technology, and green energy.

Among the key Thai dignitaries attending the forum were Deputy Minister of Commerce Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Minister of Finance Paopoom Rojanasakul, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Suksit Srichomkwan, Chairman of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (I-EA-T) Yuthasak Supasorn, and Mrs. Prassanee Ouiyamaphan, Executive Vice President of Bangkok Bank. Their participation reflected Thailand’s high-level commitment to advancing economic partnerships with the Republic of Korea.

Senior representatives from Korean and Thai enterprises, business associations, financial institutions, investment-related agencies, and private sector stakeholders participated in the forum.

On the second day, the forum delved into a wider range of sectors, including infrastructure, defense, and startups, where Korea and Thailand are believed to share significant synergy potential. Key speakers included Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Finance Julapun Amornvivat and Lee Sang-jun, Vice President of the Korean-Thai Chamber of Commerce. Moreover, Dr. Chula also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between the I-EA-T and Korean Companies for the development of the smart park industrial estate in Rayong province.

Dr. Chula’s participation underscored the EEC’s central role in Thailand’s long-term strategy to attract foreign investment, foster innovation, and position the region as a strategic gateway to the broader ASEAN market.
